Buchensteinwand Skiing Area - PillerseeTal

Mt. Buchensteinwand houses a small skiing area, which is split on St. Ulrich am Pillersee, St. Jakob in Haus and Hochfilzen

The Pillersee Cable Car, reachable by the free ski bus service, takes you in a few minutes from St. Ulrich am Pillersee up to the Buchensteinwand mountain station. The 1,456 m high "Buach", how the locals call their ridge, is a famous viewpoint in the Pillersee Valley. It features the Jakobskreuz, a walkable summit cross with five panoramic platforms, and a fantastic view as far as Mt. Grossglockner. Up there, there are 22 km of ski slopes, some ski routes and gorgeous deep snow slopes from the peak down to St. Ulrich am Pillersee, St. Jakob in Haus and Hochfilzen.

Very popular in the Buchensteinwand Skiing Area are the permanent race track called Speedtrap, the training slope of the former Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer Romed Baumann, and of course the cosy ski huts on the sunny slopes towards Hochfilzen. Furthermore there's the natural snow downhill run which is signposted, monitored and protected from avalanches, but not groomed. The best place for beginners is the Hochleiten Lift, a tow lift at the valley station.

At the valley station in St. Ulrich am Pillersee, children can find the Pletzi Park with obstacles and its mascot, the Pletzi Bear. The Tourenski World Buchensteinwand, however, includes a wide offer for skitourers. The Buchensteinwand is one of the eight skiing areas of the 3 Country Leisure Arena which includes - as mentioned above - eight areas between Tyrol, Salzburg and Bavaria.
