Arlberg fixed-rope route

The “Extreme classic”, the Arlberg fixed-rope route, is among the five most challenging and beautiful tours in the Alps

The Arlberg fixed-rope route not only requires a sure foot and no fear of heights, but also alpine experience. Equipped with helmet and climbing equipment, alpine experts can approach the 3 km long and up to 2,500 m high via ferrata. Rugged ridges and shoulders of rocks as well as vertical rock faces... not for the faint-hearted! The route takes you across the Knoppenjochspitze and Lisunspitze peaks, the Haizähne rock formations and the 2,752 m high Weissschrofenspitze.

Some 500 hooks, 1,050 rope clips, and one steel rope make this experience secure. However, the efforts are on the one hand compensated by a great panoramic view on the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps, the Stubai and Oetztal Alps, the Verwall Group and the Silvretta Mountains, on the other hand by the great feeling of freedom. The starting point is easily accessible from the mountain station of the Vallugagrat Cable Car or the Kapall Chairlift. Usually, the Arlberg fixed-rope route (Arlberger Klettersteig) is completed from west to east, which is also recommended.
