The Alpine Flower Garden at the Kitzbüheler Horn was inaugurated in 1985. In a walk up to this mountain you can choose walking throughout the Flower Garden, extending up to 1,850 m asl on the slopes of this mountain.
Ernst Walter Reisch, former owner of this area, made an area of 20,000 sqm available for this garden, which today attracts visitors from all over the world. Eva and Toni Hofer travelled in different areas of the world in order to collect plants and seeds and to plant them in the Alpine Flower Garden. Moreover the family Hofer created two artificial lakes, and care for the garden together with Prof. Dr. Herbert Reisigl of the Botanic Institute of Innsbruck.
However, not only edelweiss and gentian, probably the most famous alpine flowers, show up in the garden, but also exotic flowers such as the Tibetan carnation, the Himalaya edelweiss or plants from the Pyrenees, the Andes Mountains and the Caucasus Mountains. The Alpine Flower Garden is equipped with information boards, offering an insight into the world of alpine flowers, provided also by the 300 species of alpine flowers growing in the garden. Free admission, a great panoramic view on the mountains is included at the Kitzbüheler Horn.
Interesting: Local plants grow wild on the slopes, while plants from other countries have been planted in stone beds, as otherwise they would be crowded out by local plants.
