Zillertal Railway
The nostalgic narrow gauge railway takes you from Jenbach to Mayrhofen in the Zillertal valley.
Steam raises from the cylinders and you can hear a locomotive chuffing - it is the Zillertal Railway running for 32 km into the Zillertal valley, one of the loveliest valleys of Tyrol, with about 35 kmph. “The way is the goal”, that’s the motto! This railway dates back to a time when train journeys were a real exciting event. However, still today a journey with the Zillertal Railway is a special event.
Already in 1868 first plans to replace the road in the valley were made, but these ideas have been put in action only at the end of the 19th century. In 1902 the railway commenced operations and today it is one of the most famous narrow gauge railways of its kind. Take your seats please!
When doing a journey with the Zillertal Railway, adults recall their childhood, and children simply enjoy the unique experience. Today this narrow gauge railway with a track gauge of 760 mm is not only a tourist attraction, but also serves for short-distance travel as well as for the transportation of wood. By the way: in summer months you can be a hobby engine driver in certain periods!
